Tia T. Gordon Named Vice President, Communications, CatalystMarch 1, 2016
New York, NY (March 1, 2016)— Catalyst, the global leading nonprofit organization with a mission to accelerate progress for women through workplace inclusion, is pleased to announce the appointment of Tia T. Gordon to the role of Vice President, Communications. Ms. Gordon assumed the role on January 25, 2016, and is responsible for leading corporate communications and media relations for Catalyst regionally, nationally, and globally. Ms. Gordon also oversees and directs communications positioning and execution for Catalyst’s President and CEO, as well as communications strategy/execution for the organization’s regional offices in Australia, Canada, Europe, India, Japan, and the United States. She also serves as a Catalyst spokesperson.
With more than two decades of communications experience, Ms. Gordon is an award-winning visionary and innovative leader who is dedicated to giving a “voice to the voiceless.” Being passionate in her stance that equal opportunities should be afforded to all people, she uses her expertise in media relations, crisis management, diversity and inclusion, and strategic communications and marketing to help change attitudes and shift perceptions toward various communities in need. Throughout her career, she has worked with some of the nation’s top colleges and universities, Fortune 500 companies, and nonprofit organizations to spearhead campaigns and creative initiatives aimed at empowering traditionally underserved populations. She is also the former spokesperson and diversity lead for the entire US lodging industry, having served as the director of communications and diversity initiatives at the American Hotel & Lodging Association. She is the former communications lead for PBS’s education initiatives, working as its associate director of education communications. In 2009, she founded and led TTG+PARTNERS, a creative communications consultancy specializing in race, ethnicity, and diversity in higher education.
Ms. Gordon is an experienced speaker and writer, often covering topics related to understanding communications and reaching diverse audiences. She has been quoted in and written opinion editorials in Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, EdTech Magazine, Huffington Post, Los Angeles Times, MadameNoire Business, New York Times, USA Today, and Washington Post. She serves as an advisory board member for the Morehouse College Research Institute, an advisory board member for the Center for Student Opportunity, an editorial board member for INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, and she is a communications committee member at the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys, an Episcopal school for boys of color from low-income families in Washington, D.C. Previously, she served as a board/advisory member for the Black Public Relations Society, Public Relations Society of America, and Wyndham Hotels and Resorts. In addition, Ms. Gordon was recently honored for her diversity and communications work with a 2014 Diversity Visionary Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine and a 2015 Women Worth Watching® Award from Profiles in Diversity Journal.
Ms. Gordon has a bachelor’s degree in communications from Washington Adventist University and a master’s degree in public communications from American University. She also participated in postgraduate communications work at The George Washington University.
