Executive summary

Harassment in the construction industry remains a significant challenge, affecting both women and men. However, the experiences of men in this industry are often overlooked. Our research examines how gender-based harassment impacts men in this predominantly male-dominated field, highlighting the unique forms of harassment they face, such as bullying and belittling behaviors from peers. The research reveals that almost three-quarters of men in frontline construction roles have experienced some form of sexual harassment on the job. HR and DEI leaders must address this issue by fostering inclusive work environments that challenge harmful gender norms, provide robust reporting mechanisms, and offer support for all employees, regardless of gender. Creating a safe, respectful workplace where harassment is not tolerated will help reduce turnover, improve employee engagement, and ensure a more equitable industry overall. This research is essential for industry leaders, HR professionals, and DEI practitioners working to create safer, more inclusive workplaces for everyone in construction.
