As the return-to-office debate rages on in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, the many types of workplace flexibility that can be offered to employees who work in offices and other onsite locations often gets lost in the discussion. Workplace flexibility means more than just working from home. It also refers to when people work, and can include flexible schedules, flexible time off and leave policies, and other ways to offer employees autonomy over where and how they work. Many companies have taken creative approaches to workplace flexibility, benefiting employee wellbeing, organizational culture, and other measures of workplace success. In this piece, we describe how a variety of organizations in a range of locations and industries have incorporated flexibility into their workplaces.
