Executive summary

When it comes to gender stereotypes, men can be left out of the conversation. But as our data show, most men are under immense pressure to conform to a narrow set of characteristics that define what it means to “be a man” at work.

And the pressures of these masculine stereotypes are linked with a host of negative outcomes for men — ranging from decreased psychological well-being to increased workplace withdrawal and intent to leave their organization.

It’s time for organizations to recognize that gender impacts all employees — not just women, trans, and nonbinary employees — and take action to break down the rigid masculine stereotypes that box men in. This infographic shows you how.
