Executive summary
Catalyst’s breakthrough Risks of Retreat study revealed a potentially surprising reality — that more than 75% of US-based employees, and as many as nine in 10, support a common set of programs and approaches aimed at increasing diversity of talent, fostering inclusive cultures, and building fair systems and structures. Among these, the five most highly supported approaches are:
- Employee resource groups (ERGs) (93%).
- Creating a more inclusive work environment (92%).
- Programs intended to increase diverse representation (90%).
- Training on topics like bias, allyship, and inclusion (88%).
- Workforce diversity hiring goals (86%).1
These five programs are near universally supported by US employees working in medium to large organizations where efforts such as these are in place. This support may be a critical factor when organizations determine their strategies, but it is by no means the only consideration at play. Complex and rapidly evolving sociopolitical, legal, and economic forces are also top of mind for organizational leaders who are navigating a shifting landscape with care and impact. This resource is a “stop, start, continue” guide for leaders as they consider next steps in the evolution of these practices.
