The consulting industry can be a challenging one for retaining and advancing women. The combination of frequent travel, billable hours, and an “always on” culture often makes it difficult for employees to make career decisions, effectively manage work and life, and gain the visibility they need to advance. To address these issues, Strategy& (formerly Booz & Company) used its consulting-based approach, known as Strategic Intuition, to diagnose the firm’s barriers, or “broken windows,” to women’s retention and implemented interventions to address them. This approach identifies and aims to fix small problems before they become more serious issues that could result in attrition.
