Province of Ontario considers legislation on pay transparency—On April 18, 2018, Catalyst Canada's Executive Director, Tanya van Biesen, as a former member of the Ontario Gender Wage Gap Working Group, was able to provide an official submission explaining Catalyst's position on Bill 3, the Pay Transparency Act of 2018, currently in consideration for passage by the Ontario legislature. Canada’s House of Commons holds hearing on gender pay equity—On May 2, 2017, Serena Fong, Vice President, Government Affairs, Catalyst, testified at a hearing held by the Parliament of Canada House of Commons Special Committee on Pay Equity. The hearings were conducted to inform a plan for the government to tackle and help close the gender wage gap in Canada. Learn more and watch Ms. Fong’s testimony on the committee’s website.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio signs law to improve diversity on boards and senior leadership of city contractors—On April 26, 2017, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio signed legislation requiring the Department of Small Business Services (SBS) to produce a voluntary survey to be distributed to all prospective city contractors that will collect racial, ethnic, and gender information on their executives and board members. Catalyst received a proclamation from the New York City Council for its efforts to get the legislation passed.
