Tia T. Gordon, MA, is the Vice President, Global Communications at Catalyst. She is responsible for leading corporate communications and media relations for Catalyst on the regional, national, and global levels. Tia also oversees and directs communications positioning and execution for Catalyst’s president & CEO as well as communications strategy and execution for the organization’s regional offices in Australia, Canada, Europe, Asia Pacific, and the United States. In addition, she serves as a Catalyst spokesperson.
Throughout her career, Tia has worked with some of the nation’s top colleges and universities, Fortune 500 companies, and nonprofit organizations to spearhead groundbreaking campaigns and creative initiatives aimed at empowering traditionally underserved populations. In 2009—in the midst of the Great Recession—she boldly stepped out on faith to establish TTG+PARTNERS, a creative communications consultancy specializing in starting thoughtful conversations on race, ethnicity, and diversity in higher education. Through her firm’s groundbreaking diversity and communications efforts, Tia was honored with a 2014 Diversity Visionary Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine and named as a 2015 Women Worth Watching® from Profiles in Diversity Journal.
Previously, Tia was the spokesperson and diversity lead for the entire U.S. lodging industry, having worked as the Director of Communications and Diversity Initiatives at the American Hotel & Lodging Association. She was also the communications lead for PBS’ education initiatives while acting as the organization’s Associate Director of Education and Corporate Communications/Senior Publicist, among other senior-level positions.
Tia is an experienced speaker and writer, often requested to share on topics related to understanding communications by various publications and reaching diverse audiences. She has been quoted in and has penned opinion editorials appearing in Huffington Post, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, USA Today, and Washington Post.
A champion for community service, Tia also serves as an advisory board member for the Morehouse College Research Institute, an editorial board member for INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, and a communications committee member at the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys, an Episcopal school for boys of color from low-income families in Washington, D.C. Previously, she served as a board/advisory member for the Black Public Relations Society, Public Relations Society of America, and Wyndham Hotels and Resorts.
Tia received a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Washington Adventist University and a Master’s degree in Public Communications from American University. She also participated in postgraduate communications work at The George Washington University.
