Tia T. Gordon, M.A., is the Vice President, Global Communications at Catalyst, a global leading nonprofit organization with a mission to accelerate progress for women through workplace inclusion. She is responsible for leading corporate communications and media relations for Catalyst regionally, nationally, and globally. Tia also oversees and directs communications positioning and execution for Catalyst’s president & CEO and communications strategy/execution for the organization’s regional offices in Australia, Canada, Europe, India, Japan, and the United States. She also serves as a Catalyst spokesperson.
With more than two decades of communications experience, Tia is an award-winning visionary and innovative leader who is dedicated to giving a “voice to the voiceless.” Being passionate in her stance—a true activist at heart—that equal opportunities should be afforded to all people in an equitable manner as a principle of justice, she uses her expertise in media relations, crisis management, diversity and inclusion, and strategic communications and marketing to help change attitudes and shift perceptions toward various communities in need.
Throughout her impressive career, Tia has worked with some of the nation’s top colleges and universities, Fortune 500 companies, and nonprofit organizations to spearhead groundbreaking campaigns and creative initiatives aimed at empowering traditionally underserved populations. In 2009—during the middle of the Great Recession—she boldly stepped out on faith to establish TTG+PARTNERS, a creative communications consultancy specializing in starting thoughtful conversations on race, ethnicity, and diversity in higher education. Through her firm’s groundbreaking diversity and communications efforts, Tia was honored with a 2014 Diversity Visionary Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine and named as a 2015 Women Worth Watching® from Profiles in Diversity Journal.
Earlier in her career, Tia was the spokesperson and diversity lead for the entire U.S. lodging industry having worked as the director of communications and diversity initiatives at the American Hotel & Lodging Association and the communications lead for PBS’ education initiatives while acting as the organization’s associate director of education communications/senior publicist, among other senior-level positions.
Tia is an experienced, sought after speaker and writer often being requested to share on topics related to understanding communications and reaching diverse audiences. She has been quoted and written opinion editorials appearing in Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, EdTech Magazine, Huffington Post, Los Angeles Times, MadameNoire Business, New York Times, USA Today, and Washington Post.
A champion for community service, Tia also serves as an advisory board member for the Morehouse College Research Institute, an editorial board member for INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, and a communications committee member at the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys, an Episcopal school for boys of color from low-income families in Washington, D.C. Previously, she also served as a board/advisory member for the Black Public Relations Society, Public Relations Society of America, and Wyndham Hotels and Resorts.
Tia received a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Washington Adventist University and a Master’s degree in Public Communications from American University. She also participated in postgraduate communications work at The George Washington University.
