Gerald Lema is Managing Partner and Representative Director of Cylon Capital, a private investment group based in Tokyo and Palo Alto that creates value for top brands and technologies in the Japanese and Asia Pacific markets. He is based in Tokyo.
Mr. Lema has more than 25 years of pharmaceutical, diagnostics, healthcare and consumer experience in Asia, Europe/Middle East and Africa, US and Latin America.
Prior to Cylon Capital, Mr. Lema was President Asia Pacific and Chairman, Japan for Baxter International from 2005 until 2015 and was responsible for over 14,000 employees in Japan, China, South East Asia and Australia/New Zealand. Before Baxter, Mr. Lema worked for 18 years at Abbott Laboratories where he held several positions of increased responsibility in general management, strategy and business development. His last position with Abbott was Corporate Vice President, Asia Pacific, and Chairman/ Representative Director, Abbott Japan, in Tokyo. He also worked previously at Volvo AB of Sweden.
Mr. Lema is a graduate of the Stanford University Executive Program, has a Master of Business Administration from the Freeman School of Business at Tulane University and has a Bachelor of Science, Engineering from Universidad del Valle, Colombia.
Mr. Lema is a frequent speaker in business forums on subjects ranging from leadership, global issues and diversity in the workplace. He is a member of the Catalyst Board of Directors. He is also co-author of Foreign Investment through Debt-Equity Swaps, published in MIT’s Sloan Management Review.
