Summary of Responsibilities

The Senior Associate in Research supports and leads components of research projects examining issues related to women in business. This includes seeing work through—from suggestions and conceptualization of new projects and approaches to the creation of reports, tools, and/or knowledge products relevant to a business audience. While contributing to project-team activities, this role requires expertise in quantitative data analysis and survey design/development. The Senior Associate develops recognition as an expert on Catalyst research, both within and outside the organization.

Essential Functions

  • Leverages expertise in data preparation, quantitative analysis, and advanced modeling (especially multilevel modeling) using programming-based statistical software such as SPSS, SAS, and R.

  • Supports, manages, and/or leads components of Catalyst’s research on leadership, effectiveness in establishing equitable and inclusive workplaces, men and masculinities, and/or intersections of gender/race/ethnicity.

  • Participates in synthesizing findings, developing high-quality insights, and writing high-impact reports, tools, and/or other knowledge products designed and written for the business community.

  • Supports the development of business publications and academic journal articles.

  • Develops recognition as an expert by disseminating information to internal audiences, corporate audiences, academic audiences, the general public, and the media.

  • Builds content expertise with the goal of participating in internal or external speaking engagements.

  • Supports team, departmental, and organizational efforts and initiatives.

  • Maintains in-depth personal knowledge of Catalyst’s areas of expertise and service offerings.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong facility with statistical tools and programming language such as SPSS and Mplus, SAS, or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated strong proficiency in advanced quantitative analysis, including multiple linear and logistic regression, path models, hierarchical linear models, structural equation modeling, and exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis.

  • Past research experience with survey development, including designing and fielding online surveys, and providing reliability and validity indices on survey items.

  • Experience with longitudinal data and relevant statistical approaches preferred (e.g., growth modeling, survival analysis, time-series analysis, etc.).

  • Ability to support and manage a research project, including project planning and oversight, conceptualization of systems/processes/projects, and problem-solving.

  • Strong, succinct writing, both for business and academic audiences, including audiences not adept at statistical analysis.

  • Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to accommodate new opportunities; comfortable with ambiguity. 

  • Self-starter who can work autonomously; comfortable working on virtual/geographically dispersed teams.

  • Meticulous eye for detail.

  • Ability to generate new ideas and creative solutions.

  • Background in organizational behavior, leadership theory, and/or gender studies is desirable.

Education and Experience Requirements

This position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent, PhD preferred, in the social science, education, social work, business, management, or public administration fields, and three to five years of progressively responsible work experience in applied research and/or consulting.
