Changing workplaces. Changing lives.

Practice Areas

Women in Leadership

Catalyst's studies of women's leadership, development, and advancement are the cornerstone of our research offerings. Our general and industry-specific research portrays the state of the workplace for executive women by going behind the scenes to assess women's paths to success; the barriers women have faced on their way to the top; women's aspirations; their approaches to achieving work-life effectiveness and much more. Catalyst also counts the number of women corporate officers, top earners, and board members at the largest companies in the United States and Canada in our annual Censuses.

Organizational Change & Effectiveness

Catalyst's research on organizational change examines the relationship between organizational culture and employee experiences to yield insight into practices and strategies that attract and leverage diversity in the workplace. Our studies provide practical advice for how organizations can become more effective at supporting opportunities for women. Topics range from change management to leadership development.

Diverse Women & Inclusion

Early research on gender in the workplace focused almost exclusively on white women. Catalyst's groundbreaking work on “women of color” in the United States expanded the business world's understanding of this issue by reporting on understudied groups. In Canada, we have also studied "visible minorities," a Canadian legal term describing people who are non-Caucasian in race, non-white in color, and not Aboriginal. Now, we move beyond gender to investigate how other dimensions of difference, such as social class/caste, nationality/geography, aboriginal/indigenous status, race/ethnicity, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, immigrant/expatriate status, and other characteristics depending on region and context, affect the work experiences of women around the world. This research gives businesses a deeper understanding of overlooked segments of their workforce so that they can better manage their talent. Our goal is to create more inclusive workplaces in which all women have a chance to succeed.
