Responsibilities
A Director in Research plans, executes, and leads research projects examining issues related to women in business, from conceptualization to creating reports or other tools of relevance to a business audience. The incumbent will join the Catalyst project team conducting longitudinal research on high-potential employees in the pipeline. The Director will have extensive expertise in quantitative data analysis, including demonstrated experience with longitudinal research or time series analysis. The Director will develop recognition as an expert on Catalyst research both within and outside of the organization.
Functions
- Serves as a lead investigator for Catalyst’s longitudinal research on high-potential employees in the pipeline, designing and fielding electronic surveys, planning and conducting quantitative data analysis, and synthesizing findings.
- Builds and maintains relationships with key contacts/organizations/schools to sustain development of population samples.
- Writes high-quality reports, tools, and other knowledge products designed for the business community.
- Leads and/or supports drafting of academic journal articles.
- Develops recognition as an expert by disseminating information to internal audiences, corporate audiences, academic audiences, the general public, and the media.
- Demonstrates strong management abilities, including project planning and oversight, conceptualizing systems/processes/projects, and problem-solving ability.
- Serves as a content expert for Catalyst staff through on-boarding, coaching, and strategic guidance.
- Develops and proactively manages Catalyst's relationship with contacts at assigned member companies; conducts and supports new member pitches and maintains in-depth personal knowledge of Catalyst’s areas of expertise and service offering.
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to conceptualize and manage a research project.
- Expert in quantitative methodology, survey research and analysis skills in applied social research; considerable experience with analysis tools such as SPSS or other statistical packages.
- Expert in design and administration of global survey research.
- Knowledgeable about/experienced using panel management applications.
- Flexible and able to adapt to new opportunities; comfortable with ambiguity.
- Self-starter who can work autonomously, comfortable working on virtual/geographically dispersed teams.
- Meticulous eye for detail.
- Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong, succinct writing, both for business and academic audiences.
- Ability to generate new ideas and creative solutions.

Education and Experience Requirements
Ph.D. (preferred) or M.A. or M.S. (required), preferably in the social sciences, business, or public administration fields and five years or more of progressively responsible work experience in applied research and/or consulting.
