Associate, Media Relations, Part Time

Reports to: Vice President, Global Communications
Responsibilities
As part of Catalyst’s Marketing group, the Associate, Media Relations, develops and implements national and regional media stories/interviews for Catalyst globally and communicates the Catalyst narrative in traditional broadcast and print media as well as through social media outlets. The Associate, Media Relations, also maintains the media database and cultivates media resources.
Functions
- Develop relationships with major regional, national, and international media.
- Reach out and coordinate with media to develop and shape stories in Catalyst regions, including the United States, Canada, Europe, and parts of Asia.
- Work within Catalyst to identify resources for media.
- Prepare talking points and messaging for media materials and interviews.
- Coach Catalyst staff for media interviews.
- Assist in coordinating media/pressroom activities during Catalyst Awards Conference and Dinner.
- Create opportunities with social media and blogs.
- Assist in the planning for media-related events.
- Maintain, update, and manage media database systems and resources.
- Participate in the development of media strategy for knowledge products.
- Research new media outlets/reporters/writers for Catalyst stories/opinions.
Knowledge/Skills
- Write strong, clear, articulate, concise prose for various media audiences.
- Understand and shape media stories; develop messaging and talking points.
- Articulate Catalyst positioning/messaging within context of media stories.
- Pitch stories to journalists.
- Write for social media outlets.
- Develop relationships through email, telephone, and in person.
- Organize information, manage multiple projects, solve problems, and meet firm deadlines.
- Grasp the big picture as well as attend to minute details.
- Work independently as well as with department members and other Catalyst staff.
- Exhibit personal computer literacy in a networked Windows environment.

Education/Experience
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field, as well as three to five years experience in media relations, journalism, or public relations. Marketing experience is a plus.
