Diversity and Inclusion Consultant

Responsibilities
The Diversity and Inclusion Consultant leads/co-leads teams of consulting professionals in the successful completion of strategy development and strategic implementation engagements for leading corporations and professional firms in the areas of diversity and workforce management, with emphasis on the recruitment, retention, and advancement of diverse talent. He or she also advances Catalyst's mission and represents Catalyst at high-profile external events and speaking engagements.
The Consultant leads/co-leads and participates in targeted, quick turnaround assessment projects, draws from assessment data, such as surveys, workforce statistics, and other analyses, and guide clients through the same to create a diagnosis of workplace strengths and issues. Building on this fact base, the Consultant co-designs and facilitates/participates in strategic-planning sessions and workshops. Drawing from expertise areas, the Consultant also provides advice and resources to clients on strategic implementation of diversity and inclusion activities.
The candidate possesses at least one area of specialization, such as men as diversity champions, people of color, work-life effectiveness, employee networks, global diversity, talent management systems, senior leadership coaching, mentoring,diversity councils, or other approaches, necessary to drive change within complex organizations. The ideal candidate is adept at the development of diversity and inclusion-related tools, products, and services and has workshop design and facilitation skills. Ability to thrive in a creative, client-focused, fast-paced, and project-based environment is a must.
Functions
Under the direction of the Vice President, Advisory Services, the Consultant provides process and thought leadership/input for assigned projects. Responsibilities include:
- Developing and monitoring plans for diagnostic projects and strategic planning work that optimizes client and Catalyst needs.
- Supervising and participating in internal teams, as well as independent contractors who may be engaged for specific projects.
- Ensuring high-quality data collection (interviews, focus groups, surveys, policy review, workforce statistics), analysis, synthesis of findings, and client recommendations.
- Writing reports and presentations, developing client-specific tools, templates, and materials relevant to the change process, and providing guidance and feedback to team members in the preparation of client materials.
- Planning, guiding, and participating in clients’ strategic planning activities.
- Presenting findings and recommendations to senior-level client executives, both independently and in conjunction with the Vice President.
- Managing day-to-day relations with client contacts, typically at director level.
- Assisting in new business development and representing Catalyst externally.
- Handling inquiries by phone or in person from potential Advisory Services clients.
- Writing proposals as requested.
- Developing and leveraging a network of external resources and contacts that can be called upon for information and requests.
- Disseminating information to corporate audiences, the general public, and the media through speaking and writing.
- Participating in identifying training and resource needs for department staff.
- Identifying and participating in the development of knowledge systems, administrative tools, and procedures for the department.
- Developing recognition as an expert within an "issue specialty" area as demonstrated by information dissemination through writing and speaking to internal and external audiences.
- Developing new products, services, essays, tools, and other contributions to the Catalyst knowledge and product bank.
- Serving as a Relationship Manager for a caseload of priority member companies.
- Developing and proactively managing Catalyst's relationship with contacts and other individuals at member companies in assigned caseload.
- Assisting companies in tailoring services and offerings to best meet their needs.
- Suggesting and referring Catalyst services to fulfil specific member needs; maintaining in-depth knowledge of Catalyst's areas of expertise and service offerings.
Knowledge/Skills
- Strategic thinking and the ability to recognize and leverage opportunities related to Catalyst's mission.
- Ability to convey expert knowledge within several areas of the D&I field in formal and informal presentations and written reports.
- Skill in strategic planning related to diversity and inclusion and women’s advancement within corporations and professional firms.
- Strong management abilities, including leadership orientation, team development, project planning and oversight, and problem-solving.
- Ability to co-lead and participate in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to develop a project framework and conceptualize systems, processes, tools, and products.
- Qualitative and quantitative research experience, including the ability to write concise and compelling business reports based on data analysis and strategic insights.
- Experience facilitating meetings with clients and within a workshop setting.
- Ability to juggle multiple project responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Personal computer literacy in a networked Windows Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) environment. Data analysis, project management, and database software literacy a plus.
Working Conditions
- Ability to handle tight deadlines and multiple priorities.
- Travel up to 30 percent of the time.

Requirements
This position requires an M.A., M.S., or M.B.A. degree with at least five years of internal or external consulting, project management, or change management experience, as well as experience interacting with senior leadership and managing client relationships. Analytical and problem-solving background are a must. Global knowledge and experience are a plus. The Consultant possesses strong oral and written communication skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, and competency in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods. The Consultant also demonstrates interpersonal skills and experience with strategic planning focused on diversity and inclusion. Strategic thinking and the ability to recognize and leverage opportunities related to Catalyst's mission are essential, as is the ability to convey expert knowledge within at least one area of expertise.
