Catalyst today announced that Kenneth I. Chenault, Chairman and CEO of American Express Company, will serve as Chair of the 2008 Catalyst Awards Dinner. Catalyst also announced that Indra Nooyi, Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo, Inc., will deliver the keynote address at the 2008 Catalyst Awards Conference. The dinner and conference, which will be held at the Waldorf=Astoria on Wednesday, April 9, 2008, in New York City, honor the 2008 Catalyst Award winners for outstanding business initiatives that advance women and business.
“American Express and PepsiCo are two shining examples of what organizations can accomplish when their top leadership is truly committed to creating inclusive environments and expanding opportunities for women and business,” said Ilene H. Lang, President of Catalyst. “We are honored to have Ken Chenault and Indra Nooyi play such vital roles in the 2008 Catalyst Awards celebration.”
Chenault joined American Express in 1981, becoming Chairman and CEO in 2001. Under his leadership, American Express won the 2001 Catalyst Award for its Building a Winning Culture: Accountability Counts initiative, which focused on developing leadership competencies, including a focus on diversity with strong accountability measures.
Nooyi became CEO of PepsiCo in October, 2006, and added Chairman to her title in May, 2007, after joining the company in 1994. Under her leadership, PepsiCo’s Women of Color Multicultural Alliance initiative received the 2007 Catalyst Award. The initiative focused on attracting, retaining, and developing women of color in middle and senior management ranks at PepsiCo.
Each year, the Catalyst Award is presented to companies and firms with outstanding initiatives that produce measurable results in women’s career development and advancement, and provide the business community with replicable change models that are good for business and good for women.
