Intern: Information Center

Department: Information Center
Reports to: Senior Associate Librarian

Catalyst seeks a student in need of credit in a Master of Library Science (MLS) program for an unpaid internship in its Information Center (IC). The IC provides a variety of services, with librarians responding daily to requests from Catalyst members, academic and nonprofit organizations, professional associations, researchers, writers, and the media.

The intern will work on various tasks, including the following:

  • Contributing to research projects regarding gender diversity in business.
  • Cataloging articles and reports using modified MARC formatting for the IC catalog.
  • Developing and updating Quick Takes, statistically based overviews of topics such as women in the labor force, women of color, work/life balance, and working mothers.
  • Assisting librarians in answering reference questions.

The length of the internship and the weekly schedule are flexible. The intern may work from home on certain tasks. A virtual arrangement will also be considered. The intern should have an understanding of library functions and have taken at least one class in cataloging and reference. He or she must be motivated, technologically savvy, and able to work independently. Previous library experience, although welcome, is not required, and training will be provided.

Please email your resume and cover letter to Cheryl Yanek, Senior Associate Librarian, at [email protected]. In the letter, please explain why you want to work at Catalyst, what you wish to work on, and what you expect from the internship, and also propose a work schedule.
