Sponsorship: Beyond Platitudes

SponsorshipCatalyst's latest research, Sponsoring Women to Success, tackles ambiguity about sponsorship head-on and pushes clichés to the sidelines. Co-author Heather Foust-Cummings, Ph.D., Senior Director, Research, cuts through the jargon in her guest blog on Catalyzing, noting that "Sponsorship represents a unique 'triple-win.' Sponsors receive access to information at different levels of the organization that enable them to better understand the business and become more effective leaders. And organizations benefit through the development of more committed leaders." An additional bonus for Catalyst members is the tool, Fostering Sponsorship Between High Performers and Leaders, which shows how to build sponsorship into your organization and career.

India's Women Take the Stage

On a recent trip to India, Deborah Gillis, Senior Vice President, Membership & Global Operations, discovered that workplace challenges for Indian women are similar to those faced by women in North America—struggles with work-life effectiveness and the lack of role models, mentors, and sponsors topped the list. As We C It

Sponsorship: The Key to Success for Employers and Employees

In this Catalyzing guest post, Heather Foust-Cummings, Ph.D., Senior Director, Research, discusses the report's highlights with tips on how you can be a sponsor and how important it is to find one to help you build your career.

Women Build Better Cabinets

Do women in decision-making roles make a difference to the policy agenda of a government? Do they make different policy? According to the Ontario Minister of Health, "We are strongest when decision-making reflects the communities we serve." In a recent CanCon blog, Deborah Gillis shares that 80% of government spending in Ontario is controlled by 11 female cabinet ministers. Is it any wonder government programs aimed at family and wellness are getting passed in Canada?

Getting on Track

According to a Catalyst benchmarking report, companies vary greatly when it comes to tracking the activities and members of their women's networks. While 54% survey members for feedback, 15% do not. As for linking network leadership with promotion and employee retention metrics, only 19% explore the connection. Read more…
