C What's Happening

Show Your Pride

Pride Month in June honors the 1969 Stonewall riots, a series of demonstrations against a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, a gay club in Greenwich Village. These are commonly cited as a turning point in the struggle for gay and lesbian liberation. Our two-part Making Change series, research report, and associated tool, helps companies across the globe build and maintain successful LGBT-inclusive workplaces.

MAP a Path to Diversity

Use the Catalyst Member Activities Planner (MAP) to keep track of important D&I events in June, such as Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States, and National Aboriginal Day, which honours the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples of Canada.

Recognize Every Employee

How do you maximize your diversity and inclusion results—and ensure that progress doesn’t stall? On June 10, 2010, Julie S. Nugent, Senior Director, Research, and Chair, Catalyst Award Evaluation Committee, and Candice Morgan, Director, Advisory Services, will facilitate the first Benchmarking Virtual Roundtable in which members share and discuss best practices.

Every Number Counts

Join Catalyst and Deloitte LLP on June 14, 2010, as we unveil Canadian Industry Snapshot: Advancing Talented Individuals in Accounting Firms. Included are tips for enabling firms to recruit the best talent and reduce turnover.

Think Outside the CEMENT Box

Last month, Catalyst Europe AG announced that its CEMENT Tour (Catalyst Europe Member Event on New Thinking) would continue on June 8, 2010, in The Hague, Netherlands, to showcase initiatives and foster associations among participants. Now we report that Catalyst President & Chief Executive Officer Ilene H. Lang will be in attendance. Come join us!

Invest in Your Employees…

And they will invest in your organization. Catalyst Europe AG holds it second Live Q&A Webinar, entitled The New Math: Perspectives on Values-Based Management, on July 21, 2010.

A Seat at the Table

The Catalyst Canada Honours, which pays tribute to a CEO/Firm Leader, a Business Leader, and a Human Resources/Diversity Leader, will include executives and professionals whose commitment to women in business is exceptional. Sponsor a table for the celebratory dinner on October 6, 2010, at Toronto's Arcadian Court.

As We C It

In Catalyzing, Ilene H. Lang discussed how careless labels engender blatant stereotyping while guest-blogger, Laura Liswood, reflected on the deep economic and political gaps dividing women and men. “It turns out we will need much more affirmative approaches to close these two gaps, and that won’t be easy,” wrote Liswood, Secretary General of the Council of Women World Leaders and Senior Advisor to Goldman Sachs. “Nature provided us with diversity,” she added. “If only it had given us the tools to naturally use it.”
