This month in Catalyzing, Morten Huse, a Norwegian academic, discussed how the presence of at least three women on corporate boards enriches decision-making, while Ilene told readers not to hold their breath for stalled U.S. legislation banning discrimination of LGBT individuals in the workplace. “Legislate for yourself,” she wrote. “Lead by action.”

In CanCon, Deborah Gillis, Vice President, North America, offers her thoughts on Canadian events, and invites you to share yours. On June 21, Deborah discussed the importance of keeping the equality and diversity conversation alive, and on June 30, she described a remarkable event where 21 young women spoke with passion and purpose at the G(irls)-20 Summit.
Getting to the CORE
Catalyst Europe AG is finding that a growing number of organizations are opting out of big words, such as “diversity and inclusion,” in favor of language that is more straightforward or relevant. Big words have a way of locking people out, creating fatigue and cynicism, or distracting them from the tougher discussions.
