Easy to say, but it takes extraordinary leadership, expertise, cultural sensitivity, and commitment to make it work. This year’s Catalyst Award-winning initiatives show that it can be done.
Today, we announced that initiatives from Alcoa Inc., The Coca-Cola Company, and Unilever are the recipients of the 2013 Catalyst Award, our annual award honoring exceptional company initiatives that expand opportunities for women and business. The 2013 Catalyst Award-winning initiatives are strongly championed by CEOs—all men—who made women’s advancement a top organization-wide priority from day one. And for the first time, all of the 2013 Catalyst Award-winning initiatives are global in reach and designed and implemented in ways that successfully meet the needs of local regions and businesses—in ways both big and little.
For example, Unilever’s “Career by Choice” in India allows women to re-enter the workforce in business consultant roles with the option to become full-time. Coca-Cola’s “5by20” program aims to foster the global economic empowerment of 5 million women entrepreneurs by 2020 by helping women to overcome region-specific barriers. And at Alcoa, HR teams leverage local universities and community development programs for recruitment and professional development.
Together, these global initiatives grant opportunities to talented women and men to advance in step with Catalyst’s vision of “Changing Workplaces, Changing Lives.” This is the path forward for companies seeking sustainable impact.
